Bladder Accumulator

Bladder type Hydraulic Accumulator is an energy storage device which is mainly used during instant high demand requirement of hydraulic flow and pressure. It compensates pressure when there is a power outage or during switchover between pumps, manage the minor leakages and pressure drop takes place in the Hydraulic pipelines, fittings, and tubing, etc., It also acts as a shock absorber.

“Top repairable design” accumulator makes it possible to inspect the inside and replace bladders without having to remove them from piping. This type of Accumulator will greatly reduce the maintenance time and the cost involved.

“Welded type” bladder Accumulator is used mainly in low-pressure applications. The accumulator is fabricated with pipe and dish ends instead of seamless forming. The openings for the gas and fluid ends are precisely machined with high-precision CNC machines. Welding quality is validated using Radiography inspection to maintain the quality and integrity. The volumes are available in various ranges to meet the wide range of applications. The welded accumulators are available in Stainless steel material of any grade as well as in carbon steel material.

FAQ

Bladder accumulators are widely used in:

  • Hydraulic power packs (HPU)
  • Oil & gas control systems
  • Pipeline and valve actuation
  • Wellhead control panels (WHCP)
  • Emergency shutdown systems (ESD)
  • Offshore and onshore hydraulic equipment
  • Industrial hydraulic presses & machinery

They are ideal where fast response and pressure stabilization are critical.

In normal operation, hydraulic fluid enters the accumulator and compresses the nitrogen-filled
bladder.

During a power outage or pump failure, the accumulator immediately releases the stored fluid
back into the system, ensuring:

  • continued pressure supply for a short duration
  • smooth system performance
  • reduced risk of shutdown-related failures

This makes it a strong solution for hydraulic backup pressure.

Top Repairable Bladder Accumulator

  • Bladder can be inspected and replaced without removing the accumulator from piping
  • Faster servicing and low downtime
  • Suitable for medium to high-pressure systems
  • Cleaner maintenance (reduced oil spillage)

Welded Type Bladder Accumulator

  • Typically used in low-pressure applications
  • Fabricated shell with pipe and dished ends
  • Cost-effective option for standard systems
  • Strong fabrication quality with radiography inspection

Petronash “Top Repairable Design” allows service teams to:

  • access the internal bladder easily
  • replace the bladder without dismantling pipeline connections
  • reduce maintenance time significantly
  • avoid hydraulic oil discharge during service (environment-friendly)

This feature is especially valuable in offshore platforms, remote plants, and high uptime
facilities.

Bladder accumulators offer multiple system advantages:

  • instant response during high demand
  • compensates pressure drop due to leaks or line losses
  • maintains steady pressure during pump changeover
  • works as a hydraulic shock absorber
  • reduces vibration, pulsation, and water hammer-type effects
  • improves overall hydraulic system life

Petronash bladder accumulators are available in:

  • Volume range: 1 to 54 litres
  • Operating pressure range: 40 Bar(g) to 690 Bar(g)

This wide range ensures compatibility with standard industrial HPUs as well as high-pressure oil
& gas hydraulic systems.

To suit different service conditions, Petronash offers:

Shell Material Options

  • Carbon Steel (34CrMo4)
  • SS316 / SS316L
  • Duplex Stainless Steel
  • Other materials on request

Bladder Material Options

  • NBR (most common)
  • Viton
  • HBR
  • EPDM
  • Other materials on request

Material selection is critical for fluid compatibility, temperature range, and corrosion protection.

Petronash bladder accumulators support:

-10°C to 120°C bladder operating temperature

For special low temperature or high temperature environments, bladder material and system
configuration can be customized based on application.

Petronash designs accumulators as per:

  • ASME Section VIII Division 1 (with or without U Stamp)
  • BS EN 14359:2007 (with or without PED/CE)
  • AS1210
  • DOSH
  • Other customer-specific compliance standards

This ensures suitability for global oil & gas projects and regulatory compliance.

Petronash offers multiple options for easy integration:

Fluid Port Sizes

¼”, 3/8”, 1/2”, 3/4”, 1”, 2” & 3”

Gas Connection

  • 1/4" BSP
  • 5/8" UNF

Port sizes can be selected based on your hydraulic system flow requirement and manifold
design.

A bladder accumulator must be pre-charged using nitrogen gas at a specified pressure level.
Petronash also offers a Universal Charging Kit, which includes:

  • pressure gauge
  • required adaptors
  • spare sealscarrying
  • case

Proper charging helps:

  • improve accumulator performance
  • prevent bladder damage
  • extend service life
  • maintain stable system pressure

(Important: charging should be done as per operating procedure using nitrogen only.)
